This website allows customers to request a Historic Environment Farm Environment Record (HEFER) to find out about historic and archaeological features on their holding.  For Countryside Stewardship applications the HEFER also contains advice on how to protect and enhance those historic and archaeological features. 

This leaflet (link) explains what the CS HEFER is, why you need one and how you should use it. 

The HEFER document identifies any known features on a holding, which may comprise:

• Scheduled Monuments;
• Registered Parks and Gardens and Registered Battlefields; and
• non-designated historic and archaeological features, known as SHINE features, which has been created by your local authority Historic Environment Record (HER).

CS Mid-Tier applicants should register to use this website and will be sent an email to confirm their registration.  Once registered, customers can request a CS HEFER by entering their Single Business Identifier (SBI) and will be sent an email confirming when the document is available for download. If your land has a Scheduled Monument, Registered Park or Garden or Registered Battlefield this may take up to 20 working days.
